Organization information

ReSurge International builds surgical capacity and provides reconstructive surgical care for children and adults in developing countries who suffer from disabling injuries or congenital anomalies such as cleft lips and palates, burns, hand injuries and other conditions.

With 95 million children worldwide living with a disability resulting from congenital conditions, disease or injuries, fewer than 10% of whom attend school, ReSurge addresses a critical health care need in the developing world. Through its Visiting Educator program, which includes plastic surgeons from leading US and international universities such as Stanford, Harvard, and Johns Hopkins, ReSurge focuses on training the next generation of reconstructive surgeons.

ReSurge’s programs increase access to sustainable, high-quality care in developing countries and renew the health of approximately 3,000 children and adults each year so they can go to school, provide for their families, and contribute to society. Local, developing-world surgical teams, which ReSurge trains and supports, perform more than 85% of those surgeries.

ReSurge operates in 16 countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
