Primary Purpose:
This position’s primary responsibility will be assisting with grassroots organizing efforts involving the CWS network. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Community Organizing for IRP+, the position will help coordinate and manage grassroots organizing operations with faith communities, refugee leaders and refugee resettlement agencies. The Associate Grassroots Organizer will coordinate with the CWS Advocacy team to help develop and enact effective strategies and actions to build welcoming communities throughout the country. Responsibilities will include following up with local organizers, managing contact lists, leading educational workshops, assisting with communications needs, providing technical support to local leaders, and fulfilling administrative tasks and needs within the CWS Advocacy office.
Essential Duties:
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, Community Organizing IRP+, maintain relationships with CWS member communions, denomination representatives, and congregations.
  • In conjunction with CWS member communions, help build welcome teams within congregations to assist in refugee resettlement and refugee rights work.
  • Coordinate faith community outreach, involvement with CWS/IRP local offices and affiliates, refugee leadership teams and community organizing efforts in line with the CWS mission.
  • Assist in efforts to educate, mobilize and organize congregations to be in solidarity with immigrants and refugees.
  • Assist the Grassroots Organizer, regional organizers, refugee organizers, and refugee leadership teams in key states to further national, state, and local priorities.
  • Assist with database tools to manage contacts and to track grassroots activities and outcomes.
  • Assist communications team with relevant social media and communications activities including Op-Eds, media advisories and videos demonstrating support for refugees and immigrants.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as grant reports, event and travel logistics, screening IRP+ internship applications, and monthly expenses.
  • Attend, present at, and provide resources at relevant meetings, trainings, regional and denomination wide conferences on immigrants’ and refugee rights
  • Respond to emergency assistance requests from local resettlement offices, member communions, and immigrant and refugee communities.
  • Increase understanding about the connections between involvement in refugee resettlement, community organizing, and congregational vitality.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.
Education: Theological education, community organizing experience, or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Experience working with local congregations and knowledge of refugee resettlement. Previous experience with theological reflection, church polity, advocacy and community organizing. Knowledge and experience in working with excel, powerpoint and database software is essential. Strong organization, relationship building, writing, and verbal presentation skills are a must.
