The Community Engagement Officer will support Internews' Communication with Communities, data collection and information management processes in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh under the Advancing Access to Reliable Information project. He/she will help deliver key humanitarian information to the affected communities, as well as collect feedback and data in the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf. On a day-to-day basis he/she will be involved in a wide variety of activities involving training, data management, feedback collection and report creation.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Train Internews Bangladesh staff on Community Engagement practices and activities;
  • Organize and supervise data collection activities in the camp with community correspondents.
  • Organize Focus Group Discussions, and Listener's Groups
  • Provide strategic vision and input in the assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of needs assessments and projects on communicating with communities (CwC).
  • Facilitate all activities undertaken by the team, including needs assessments, multi-agency/sector information campaigns and collective advocacy, through network building in refugee and host communities.
  • Ensure voices from target communities are fed back into projects and policy and advocacy work
  • Under the supervision and in collaboration with the project lead, intermittently assess Internews’ feedback mechanisms and collection activities and recommend any changes based on shifting programming environment
  • Work alongside Gender Officer to ensure marginalized voices are included in project activities, especially women and youth
  • Produce regular updates, summarizing progress, achievements and identifying gaps and challenges covering all activities concerning communications with affected communities. Provide input into Situation Reports and other information products where relevant.

  • At least 3 years professional experience in community engagement work in the development field. Experience working on USAID-funded projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience providing regular reporting on program activities and achievements
  • Experience working on media development and/or humanitarian programs
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the workplace and experience providing technical support to a cross-section of staff and local partners.
  • Fluency in English and Bangla required; Fluency in Chittagonian dialect or Rohingya preferred
  • Significant experience working in CxB, Chittagong or surrounding areas preferred
  • Solid English writing skills
  • Must be self-reliant, resourceful, good problem-solver, good humored, and flexible.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and reliably, to a high standard and to deadline.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, development, or related field or equivalent standard of education
