We are looking to hire an experienced Business Development Manager for a new position in the organization. We are seeking an entrepreneurial Manager to build and lead the development function within the organization. The Business Development Manager will have the opportunity to use his or her skills and experience to forge a new position that is both strategic and operational and to drive a range of business development and fundraising initiatives.

About the role:

This role will work directly with the CEO to design and execute strategies to diversify Radiant Earth’s existing funding sources. Potential sources include U.S. and other government agencies (such as USAID, DFID, and NASA), foundation funds, corporate partnerships, major donors, and fundraising campaigns. The position will report to the CEO and will be expected to manage day-to-day business development activities, including creating an internal opportunity tracking system, drafting organizational qualifications and capability statements, managing capture activities, and coordinating the preparation of technical and cost proposals.

Our ideal candidate is someone who has experience in a similar business development role and is ready to take his or her career to the next level. The successful candidate will understand the full development cycle, such as creating fundraising strategies, proposal development, partner identification, and onboarding, and cultivating major donor relationships.

We seek someone with a strong track record of securing funding from various funding sources. A strong candidate will be detail-oriented and organized with excellent writing and communication skills, be a strong team player, and have a passion for our work. We seek a candidate who understands the international development context in the regions in which we work, who has strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, and who is familiar with the operating environment of international development sector organizations, such as NGOs, consulting and implementation firms, and/or donor organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market research to identify and evaluate specific business opportunities and market trends.
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis and establish effective communications with them.
  • Coordinate and write funding proposals in collaboration with the engineering and marketing team.
  • Maintain the organization’s sales funnel and projections.
  • Maintain all fundraising contacts and information in Salesforce.
  • Make public appearances and accept speaking engagements to present Radiant Earth Foundation activities.
  • Oversee the development of all grant reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with the CEO to manage the day to day activities of the organization.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager to support brand development and messaging.
  • Work closely with accounting to ensure all reporting requirements are accurate and timely.
  • Liaise with partner organizations on business development related activities.
  • Coordinate and lead internal business development meetings.
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned by the CEO.

Basic Qualifications:

  • MA is preferred. BA (or equivalent undergraduate degree) in international affairs, international business, (non-profit) management, economics, or related fields is required.
  • 3-5 years of previous fundraising or business development experience.
  • Track record of successful fundraising.
  • Knowledge and fluency in fundraising techniques particularly major gift fundraising.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Possess the skills to work with and inspire staff, board members, and community members.
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal-driven.
  • Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
  • Display a positive attitude, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
  • Full proficiency in G Suite and Office 365.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with donor organizations and their regulations and operating procedures.
  • Previous fundraising experience in a global development context.
  • Knowledge of Earth observation science and machine learning.
  • Strong existing network in the philanthropic community.

Washington, DC, and San Francisco, CA are preferable. Remote work within the U.S. is also possible.
