ABOUT SEEDS OF PEACE: Established nearly 30 years ago, Seeds of Peace is an international not-for-profit that develops young leaders in areas of conflict around the world. Originally founded to address the Arab-Israeli conflict, Seeds of Peace currently works in 8 countries with staff and programs located in Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, India, Pakistan, the UK, and the US (including seasonal staff at its camp facility in Maine.)
Seeds of Peace implements regional leadership programs, aimed at addressing racial, religious, socioeconomic, and political divides within national groups, as well as global programs that bring together young leaders from opposite sides of political conflicts. Approximately 1,000 youth participate in Seeds of Peace programs each year, at the flagship Camp in Maine, multinational seminars held around the world, as well as the regional leadership programs.
Seeds of Peace’s programs are rooted in dialogue, with a belief that transformative encounters across lines of difference can create lasting change and position these leaders (called “Seeds”) to take courageous action to address the conflicts in their communities. The program’s 8,000 alumni are working for change across all sectors of society, occupying prominent roles in diplomacy, government, business, arts and education, and leading effective social change movements.
As polarization grows around the world, demand for Seeds of Peace is increasing. The organization is poised to implement a growth-oriented strategic plan with the aim of mobilizing the energy, passion, and skill of this new generation of global leaders.
FUNDING: Seeds of Peace has a current operating budget of approximately $7 million, the majority of which is received from philanthropy, governmental grants, camp fees, and program services.
THE OPPORTUNITY: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a newly created role resulting from a recent organizational assessment and will be a central member of the Seeds of Peace senior leadership team. The COO will be a business partner and trusted advisor of the Executive Director, and responsible for leading operations and administration of global programs including their summer camp and leadership summits, oversight for regional offices, human resources, information technology, facilities, and risk/compliance. In short, this is an opportunity for an ambitious and mission driven leader to join a well-established organization and transform its organizational efficiency, from people and process to strategy and capacity building.
The COO reports to the Executive Director, Josh Thomas. He/she/they will provide leadership and oversight for a team of approximately 20 individuals (plus seasonal staff at camp) in program operations, legal, human resources, information technology, and camp facility management. The team and programming are geographically dispersed both internationally and in the US.
The COO will join a dynamic international organization that works to empower new generations of courageous, global leaders in communities divided by conflict. Current plans call for expanding Seeds of Peace programming in the US and around the globe. The starting annual base salary is $200,000 plus an attractive benefits package. There is flexibility with a hybrid work policy, with the expectation that the COO will exercise good judgement on when and where they and others need to be available in-person/on site.

- Significant organizational leadership experience in strategic planning, administration, people operations, and finance operations in a complex not-for-profit organization (or relevant government or private sector experience).
- Capable of high-level strategic thinking and able to operationalize and prioritize.
- Experience in a national or global multisite organization.
- Highest commitment to professionalism, integrity, compassion, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively within multiple cultures and countries.
- Experience working with an active and engaged board of directors.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and to make recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ability to oversee day-to-day operations and provide direction on policy and strategic matters in a fast-paced setting.

- Willing and able to travel relatively frequently to program sites, conferences, events, and locations where Seeds of Peace is operational.
- Undergraduate degree is required; an advanced degree is advantageous.
