Job Title: Communications Internship (full-time with stipend)

Time commitment: Full time (35 hours per week)

Time Period: One year from date of hire

Location: MAG America, Washington, D.C.

Compensation: $1,771 per month, plus commuter benefits and 10 days PTO (accrued monthly)

Position Overview:

Working out of MAG America’s office in downtown Washington, D.C., the Communications Intern helps build awareness of International Humanitarian Mine Action issues and MAG’s brand among the public through traditional publications, the Internet and social media. This position offers the opportunity to gain entry-level experience in digital and published Communications through a variety of platforms, while learning the ins and outs of non-profit messaging. This position is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to break into the non-profit, international development or communications sectors.

Work closely with MAG America and international staff to develop timely and relevant content for MAG America’s website, Facebook page, and promotional materials. In addition to online strategy, assist with other communications, including electronic and printed newsletter development and distribution, donor communications—both online and printed, mailings and special events.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within online systems to write and edit copy for MAG America’s mass emails
  • Design graphic and visual content for MAG America’s outreach platforms
  • Develop written and visual content for the MAG America Facebook page
  • Assist with light web maintenance and updates
  • Printed and electronic newsletter development and design
  • Use social networks to support and promote MAG’s partnerships
  • Assist with writing and editing mass mailings, e-mails, and letters to donors and supporters
  • Assist with public fundraising events
  • Other content creation and tasks as needed

 

Requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Completed a degree in Marketing, Journalism, or Communications within the last two (2) years
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Experience creating content for and publishing on social media, specifically Facebook
  • Proficient with a content management system (CMS)
  • Familiarity with an email database system like Blackbaud NetCommunity preferred
  • Website management and editing experience
  • Experience with Google Analytics preferred
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work in a professional environment
  • Strong organizational skills. Enthusiastic, proactive, and solutions-oriented approach to work
  • Ability to work within a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow written instructions
  • Personal commitment to MAG's philosophy, work and mission.
