Variety – the Children’s Charity International, is looking for a seasoned Executive Director to bring the organization to new horizons!

The Executive Director is responsible for the direction and management of the organization, in collaboration with the Board of Directors. This role, in collaboration with the Chair of the Board, will be the spokesperson for the organization and serve as a catalyst for fundraising and for improved relationships with the Variety Tents and donors.

The Executive Director will identify, evaluate and inform the Board about internal and external activities that affect the organization. The Executive Director will communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the organization's work and to identify changes in the community served by Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the Variety brand throughout the organization and across all Tents
  • Participate with the Board to develop and implement a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
  • Ensure the effective operation of the Variety International office and ensure the tents are functioning within their licence agreement
  • Develop an operational plan that incorporates strategic goals and objectives
  • In collaboration with the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for achieving and maintaining financial viability of the Variety International office and the organization
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of all programs and services to maintain and improve program quality in collaboration with the Board
  • Recruit, interview and select personnel with appropriate technical and personal skills to contribute to the organization's mission
  • Work with a small team to ensure adequate funding and complete annual budgets
  • Look for funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans, and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization
  • Administer the funds, according to the approved budget, and monitor the organization's monthly cash flow
  • Develop and implement a marketing and communication plan that incorporates the Variety brand message and the goals and objectives that help raise the profile and raise funds
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians and other organizations to help Variety achieve its goals


  • Related University degree in management, business administration, public administration, or health care management
  • 8 or more years of progressive management experience in a not-for-profit organization or related experience
  • Proven track record in cultivating and maintaining relationships
  • Proven track record of raising funds through corporate and individual giving
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and the proper work permit for the State of California
  • CFRE designation would be an asset


  • Ability to build and maintain tent and other key stakeholder relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to effectively manage time, people, budget, and resources
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work cooperatively and independently
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite products
