Membership & Standards Team


InterAction is the largest alliance of international NGOs and partners in the U.S. InterAction’s Membership & Standards team is seeking a candidate for Spring 2018 in Washington, DC. The internship position offers the opportunity to be part of a membership team within a dynamic organization that plays a key role in the international humanitarian and development community. Within this role, interns will learn about key association member service elements including membership recruitment and retention, marketing and event management of a 501(c) 3 trade association.


As part of the Membership & Standards team, interns will support the following initiatives and activities:


Event Management:

  • Buildout of online event registration for Forum 2018
  • Development of education programs for Forum 2018
  • RFP process, venue analysis and site visit coordination for 2018 and 2019 CEO Retreats
  • Compiling and updating Forum historical data



  • Development of a marketing plan for Forum 2018 by conducting research of marketing opportunities and partnerships
  • Outreach and promotion of 2018 and 2019 CEO Retreats


Membership Management:

  • Data collection and analysis as needed
  • Research projects to assess InterAction’s value proposition
  • Establishing Self Certification Plus Process for 2018
  • Creation of internship program in partnership with InterAction associate members
  • 2018 membership dues process


Ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, a positive attitude, ability to manage multiple tasks, and flexibility to meet changing deadlines and priorities. Interest in nonprofit management, international development and humanitarian assistance strongly preferred. Experience with Salesforce a plus.


In addition to gaining practical skills in the above areas, the following can be expected:

  • Opportunities to initiate interviews with senior staff members at InterAction and informally network with over 50 staff members and interns
  • Access to member working group meetings and brown bag lunches that focus on a variety of current issues within the international development and humanitarian assistance fields


Position will work 32 hours per week at InterAction’s office, located in northwest Washington, DC.  This is an unpaid internship but a monthly travel stipend of $50 is available.
