The full-time Program Associate will gain hands on experience collaborating with local and international staff, while supporting the team in Sierra Leone to grow its innovative programs. This position will report to the Program Director and work closely with the Development and Communications Director in the US office, while supporting front-line staff and management in Sierra Leone.  The Program Associate will provide assistance with staff capacity building and contribute to curriculum development, as well as specified program development areas. Additionally, the Program Associate will work with front line staff to share stories from our communities and help the Development and Communications Director with development of content to be used on OneVillage Partners’ social media platforms and website, as well as print and online communications.

The Program Associate position is a 1 year position. This position is ideal for someone looking to kick-start their career in international development and gain wide array of relevant on-the-ground experience with a growing, values driven organization. The position is split between the city of Kenema and the small town of Bunumbu in Eastern Sierra Leone, with frequent travel to nearby communities. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Support and Development (30%)

  • Supports the ongoing development and refinement of program curricula, including field observations and team debriefs
  • Collaborate with Program Director and/or relevant Managers to develop and plan program extensions and additional field activities.
  • Manage the OneVillage Partners Program Database and update monthly in collaboration with Monitoring and Evaluation team and Program Managers
  • Frequently create program learning documents for internal and external circulation in collaboration with all departments
  • Research topics as needed for OneVillage Partner’s programs, including technical aspects of projects and program expansion
  • Assist in developing external training modules and toolkits based on OneVillage Partners methodology and activities
  • Support the implementation of pilot programs as part of OneVillage Partners Strategic Plan
  • Support the expansion of OneVillage Partners programming into a new Hub in 2020 in recruitment and research on new office locations
  • Identify areas of growth for the organization, particularly identify key areas for collaboration with other NGO’s
  • Respond to needs and opportunities of partner communities as they appear; initiates proposals based on identified challenges and gaps in service, in office and in the field.

Capacity Building (20%)

  • Plan monthly staff trainings on a variety of topics, bringing in external facilitators or any relevant media when necessary
  • Regularly build capacity of staff in: document and spreadsheet creation, story and report writing, general computer use and email, improved photography, and more as needed and directed
  • Provide quarterly assessment on capacity needs of staff based on feedback and observations
  • Plans and facilitates monthly Staff Reflection Meetings
  • Assist with any staff retreats in the following areas: planning and logistics, team building exercises, support to all presentations, and managing any technical aspects.
  • Provide one on one support to team members and managers in any areas of highlighted need, technical or otherwise

Writing and Reporting (25%)

  • Support research and writing grant applications and project updates; identify new funding streams
  • Support development of “Most Significant Change” stories including editing and formatting stories for wider publication
  • Compile and edit Monthly Report from Sierra Leone-based team
  • Provide weekly communication updates to US-based Development and Communications Director and participates in monthly planning calls
  • Curate content for US fundraising events
  • Researches and writes persuasive stories about program work for external use
  • Provide content support for OneVillage Partners’ publications (annual report, newsletters, appeals, blogs, and electronic newsletters)
  • Produce material in multiple formats for presenting OneVillage Partner’s work to like-minded organizations and government partners

Media Management (25%)

  • Capture captivating photos, videos and audio content from our work for online communications and internal use
  • Serve as a brand ambassador in Sierra Leone ensuring consistent use of the OneVillage Partners’ brand
  • Support work to improve media outreach in country, particularly on the radio
  • Serve as point person for any communications related site visits (i.e. Photographers, Videographers, Radio Producers)
  • Organize and store media captured by Program Teams for sharing between US and Sierra Leone offices
  • Assist in the growth of social media engagement and online presence by providing high quality content and media for posts
  • Identify new online opportunities to grow organization’s social media reach
Preferred Skill Sets and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in relevant field, master’s degree is an advantage.
  • 2-3 years of work experience in a related field; experience in facilitation and training cross culturally
  • Minimum of 6 consecutive months abroad, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Fluency and excellent writing ability in English.
  • Competency in photography and graphic design; video editing skills are a strong advantage
  • Willingness to live in a rural environment for a minimum of 1 year in Eastern Sierra Leone.
  • Passion for community-led development.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication skills
