The Interfaith Rainforest Initiative (IRI) is an international, multi-faith alliance that aims to bring moral urgency and faith-based leadership to global efforts to end tropical deforestation. It is a platform for religious leaders to work hand-in-hand with indigenous peoples, governments, civil society and businesses on actions that protect rainforests and safeguard those that serve as their guardians. Partners to the initiative include GreenFaith, the Norwegian International Climate and Forest Initiative, Rainforest Foundation Norway, Parliament of the World’s Religions, Religions for Peace, World Council of Churches and the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology, with coordination by UN Environment.

Religions for Peace is recruiting a Project Manager to be responsible for the implementation of IRI country programs and, as needed, contribute to global advocacy and campaign work. Sitting in the office of Religions for Peace International in New York, the IRI Project Manager will be responsible for managing and ensuring overall program implementation, leading day-to-day engagement with country staff, supporting country programs to ensure national priorities meet the initiative’s global objectives, and coordinating with key partners to advance IRI’s mission. The position will work in close collaboration with counterparts at UN Environment.


• Manage IRI country staff, and support the implementation of national action plans, priority activities and faith-based mobilization strategies
• Coordinate with international NGOs and other interfaith partners to leverage programs and support to the IRI initiative
• Monitor and evaluate implementation of country activities, ensuring targets and timelines are met, country work is documented, and regular reports are prepared and submitted to global partners
• Manage development and dissemination of educational materials, knowledge products and training tools on forest protection, globally and in program countries
• Convene and connect staff from each country team to facilitate learning and lesson sharing
• Represent the IRI partnership at global advocacy events and meetings as needed
• Contribute to the development of country profiles, stories and content generation to IRI global communications campaigns
• Coordinate communications and outreach to religious networks and faith-based organizations, globally and in priority countries, including through newsletters, digital content, op-eds and other communications content
• Coordinate outreach and engagement with global and national faith-based media outlets, to feature stories, editorials and open letters on faith-based action to protect forests

• Written and oral fluency in English, Spanish and French
• At least 5 years’ experience in project management
• Excellent writing, analytical, research and communication skills (ideally related to advocacy initiatives and policies related to environment desirable)
• Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies
• Experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs
• Experience in building teams and local networks
• Ability to manage and work remotely with team members located in various countries
• Good intercultural communications
• Openness in working with and engaging with religious communities
• Knowledge and experience in the protection of indigenous rights and/or tropical rainforests is highly desired
