Description

The Senior Accountant, will be based in NY, and is responsible for grants management/reconciliation: pre
and post award grant accounting including, but not limited to, budget preparation and maintenance,
submission of financial reports and vouchers, financial monitoring, and analysis, ensuring financial
compliance with funding source regulations, and maintenance of financial records in accounting software
and databases. In addition to general accounting duties. The Senior Accountant will report to the Chief
Financial Officer, who in turn, serves on the Senior Management Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Grant Management:
• Manage all aspects of finance/compliance for grants and contracts.
• Monitor program expenses and ensure that all grant related costs are appropriately stated in
the GL while maintaining the records in accordance with GAAP.
• Monitor budget variances and contact field offices for explanations of significant variances.
• Prepare financial reports and advance/reimbursement vouchers for government, NGO, and
private donors.
• Maintain and monitor grants tracking systems and files for all active grants/contracts.
• Prepare contracts/grants closeouts.
• Assist with preparation of budgets for proposals and projects in conjunction with program and
development staff.
• Assist in creating contracts, sub-contracts, grant agreements, etc.
Accounting:
• Prepare financial statements and management reports, including budget to actual, P/L and
forecasting.
• Manage cash flow, bank reconciliation (including investment accounts), accounts payable,
accounts receivable and credit-cards reconciliation, accruals, and other reporting instruments to
maintain financial accountability for government and private funding agencies.
• General ledger reconciliation & analysis of all major balance sheet and income statement
accounts.
• Assist with annual organizational budget preparation and budget modifications including
strategic budgets for long/short term planning for the organization.
• Maintain expense allocation table to ensure appropriate assigning of indirect costs and
restricted funds.
• Assist with schedules and analysis for the outside auditors as well as project audits.
• Assist with 1099 and 990 filings.
Required Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- 5-7 years related experience and knowledge of Non-profit accounting standards and a minimum
of three years of grants’ accounting experience.
- Strong organizational skills, verbal and written communications skills and the ability to interact
well with others in a multi-cultural, team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrable ability to work efficiently and responsibly, with good analytical and problemsolving skills, and to respond effectively and efficiently to changing priorities.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Accounting software - MIP fund accounting or other
not-for-profit accounting software is preferred. Exceptional attention to detail, and knowledge
of other languages, are a plus.
