Job Description:

Build Health International (BHI) is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Specialist. 

BHI is a unique nonprofit organization working across low-resource settings to develop infrastructure solutions that elevate the quality and accessibility of healthcare worldwide. BHI designs, builds, maintains, and provides clinical and operational consulting for healthcare facilities in low and middle-income countries. BHI has worked on over 200 projects over 50 countries and is dedicated to partnering with local ministries of health and NGOs that provide high-quality, accessible treatment to local populations. BHI’s partnership network includes high-impact healthcare partners on the ground as well as the Global Fund, WHO, and many others. Grounded in commitments to sustainability, health equity, and local capacity building, BHI is focused on creating real, tangible impacts that will last for years to come.

The Communications Specialist will collaborate and engage with a diverse set of internal and external organizational stakeholders to promote global health initiatives and showcase the impact of BHI’s projects and goals especially with expanded work across the African continent. The position requires flexibility, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team dynamic with strong attention to detail. This is an exciting opportunity to take part in the growth of BHI’s communications, fundraising, partnership development, and operations with exposure across many projects and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capture and develop communication assets across BHI and partner project sites including photo, video, and story leads
  • Travel to BHI’s various project sites throughout East and West Africa to document project milestones and engage with project partners
  • Support development of digital content, including visual graphics, video, social media, blog posts, and other promotional materials for BHI’s global healthcare infrastructure projects 
  • Collaborate on BHI’s various social media channels, including LinkedIn, Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, Medium, TikTok, and YouTube as well engagement with partner channels 
  • Plan and develop assets for BHI’s brand voice that strengthening visibility across the architecture, engineering, construction, medical oxygen, and global health sectors 
  • Collaborate to expand communication collateral tools that amplify BHI’s expertise, dynamic team, and healthcare infrastructure impact 
  • Maintain an understanding of nonprofit communications and industry trends, cultural context, and conduct relevant global health technical research for use in communication materials and recommendations to the organizational communication strategy
  • Support editorial goals tied to impact across the health and environmental sectors by collaborating with BHI’s various departments and partner stakeholders
  • Track platform engagement metrics and analytics to be used toward strategic communications planning

 

Qualifications: 

  • 2-4 years of communications, graphic design, or marketing experience, ideally in a nonprofit or global health related setting 
  • Open to international travel - role is expected to have 25-30% travel
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, International Relations, Public Health, or related fields 
  • Track record of building creative concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Canva, and web-based video editing software
  • Experience with marketing tools and photo/video editing software
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural competencies; organizational and project management skills that demonstrate an ability to successfully collaborate with a variety of departments and stakeholders 
  • Flexibility, attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to multitask 
  • Experience planning social media campaigns, including knowledge of Sprout Social, Google Analytics and platform-based analytics (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) 
  • Fluency in English, and proficiency in Spanish or French is a major plus 
  • Open to international travel especially throughout East and West Africa

 

Compensation: Competitive base salary commensurate with experience.
