Founded in 1906, American Leprosy Missions is the oldest and largest Christian organization in the United States working to bring cure and care to people affected by leprosy and related diseases.
Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with leprosy. Often believed to have been eradicated, leprosy still occurs in more than 100 countries worldwide. The physical and emotional effects of leprosy can be devastating if left untreated. It is estimated that more than 13 million people around the world are disabled as a result of leprosy.
Headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, American Leprosy Missions currently operates in more than ten countries, mostly in Africa and Asia. During its more than 100-year history, American Leprosy Missions has provided holistic care to four million people around the world including medical treatment and training, Christian outreach, prevention of disability, community development and vaccine research. American Leprosy Missions recently shipped $3.6 million of in-kind medical gifts to hospitals and community health organizations in countries where it works.
