Description

ReSurge International
Chief Executive Officer

ReSurge’s mission is to inspire, train, fund, and scale reconstructive surgical teams in low-income countries to provide life-changing care to patients with the greatest need.

Worldwide, five billion people lack access to safe, timely, and affordable surgical care. Since 1969, ReSurge International has worked to transform the lives of children and adults lacking surgical access. It is one of the few organizations that provides the full scope of reconstructive surgical care to treat congenital anomalies, traumatic injuries including burns and road traffic accidents, as well as cancer. These conditions represent approximately 30% of the global burden of disease -- three times more than malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS combined. There is still a shortfall of more than five million reconstructive surgical procedures annually, resulting in millions of individuals suffering needless death, disability, and related financial catastrophe. At ReSurge, the Board and staff envision a world where no one suffers from a lack of access to life-changing reconstructive surgical care. ReSurge currently works in 19 low and middle-income countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The Board of Directors of ReSurge International (“ReSurge”) seeks an experienced senior executive to lead this preeminent global surgery nonprofit organization as President and Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”).

The CEO must be an exemplary leader in three keys areas for ReSurge – first, a talented strategic fundraising executive with a track record of garnering financial resources enabling an enterprise to grow and scale; second, a partner with the board of directors regarding vision, execution of the mission, and strategic growth and direction; and third, a seasoned relational executive leader who manages and mentors staff, is a savvy financial executive and works well with volunteer medical professionals. The CEO will continue to enhance an organizational culture in which all staff can thrive.

Experience:

A well-qualified candidate will be a seasoned executive and bring a demonstrated track record of success in the following areas:

  • Visionary leadership and executive management of complex organizations
  • Proven fundraiser in a nonprofit environment
  • Delivery of effective programs
  • External communications
  • Management of the Board/executive dynamic
  • Utilizing “soft” skills when required

The CEO will ideally possess knowledge of international development and global health sectors as well as be conversant in and at ease with medical services and terminology including reconstructive surgery.

This professional should have strong international experience and be comfortable with different cultures, languages and international regulatory environments.

ReSurge International has an organizational commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

It encourages the candidacy of professionals with diverse lived experiences.
