Description

As part of the Human Resources team, the Compensation Specialist will provide professional leadership and coordination in the development, implementation, and administration of job classification and compensation programs for employees across the organization. This is a full-time position, reporting to the Director of HR Operations. The incumbent for this role must be based in a State in which the organization is registered, with preference given to candidates in the Boston or DC areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide guidance and training on day-to-day compensation issues, policy interpretation, problem resolution, and compliance with organizational policy, state, federal and international law.
  • Provide support on strategic compensation management, organization and job design, individual compensation/classification concerns, and other compensation-related issues.
  • Research and evaluate organizational needs, market trends and strategic compensation issues; and develop recommendations for consistent and responsive compensation programs, methods, systems, and approaches
  • Consult on requests for new or revised jobs; evaluate needs based on organizational or market factors, and establish salary ranges within JSI’s compensation structure and geographic location zones, assessing appropriate pay grades through the use of job evaluation and market data.
  • Provide leadership on the administration of the job classification/reclassification process, and ensure quality control of the process for both existing and newly created positions.
  • Provide support and recommendation on the development and/or revision of job descriptions, standards on experience and qualifications, and formats for appropriate job classification.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of JSI’s compensation practices through internal and external research of performance benchmarks and critical indicators such as turnover statistics, recruitment success studies, equity studies, and participation in applicable compensation/salary surveys.
  • Review JSI’s compensation structure at a minimum of every three years to assess internal equity and competitiveness within the market, making recommendations on adjustments to support JSI's compensation policy and objectives.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate implementation of job structure and market parity studies; lead and guide implementation of job restructuring programs and other strategic compensation projects organizationally
  • Assist and collaborate, as appropriate, in the review, approval, and administration of increases related to annual performance reviews and promotions for staff.
  • Perform other compensation-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience directly related to the compensation duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Advanced knowledge of compensation management and survey principles and practices, as applied to JSI’s industry, applicable markets, and peer organizations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret strategic compensation issues within the broader human resources context, and provide recommended solutions.
  • Knowledge of organization structure, staffing patterns, job design, and job description development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions and judgment on sensitive, confidential matters.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present effectively to teams.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop creative solutions to compensation and HR issues.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and international/local country wage and salary laws and regulations.

Salary Range: $60,923-$93,948
