Summary: The Director of Partnerships & Business Development is a business development professional, who will lead the development of large, complex / strategic bids for the US Government and large US Based Institutional and Foundation Donors while also securing corporate partners. The incumbent will effectively work with all parts of the organization including finance, programs, and communications to ensure all support services are engaged in the proposal development process. The incumbent will also play a key role in supporting the organization’s knowledge management of business development and institutional donor information, such as monitoring the organizational forecasts, pipeline, and related donor trends.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Alongside the ED proactively engage external partners in USG, Foundations and Corporations within the US to build relationships and generate new funding opportunities.
- Work with the ED in developing and implementing strategies to access funding from new markets within the USG, corporates, and philanthropists.
- Collect background information to develop prospect profiles and perform analysis to including donor’s likely giving capacity.
- Develop donor engagement plans and use tracking tools to monitor progress against targets.
- Participate in external working groups, roundtables, high level meetings, conferences, and sector events.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
USG & Foundations
- Purpose: Lead and support business development strategy for USG and US foundation opportunities, guiding and coordinating pre-positioning activities and proposal development teams, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities, high quality and timely inputs.
- Engagement: Contribute to the organization’s fundraising efforts as it relates to competitive USG and US Based opportunities. Manage pre-positioning efforts with key partner organizations with whom we can forge strategic partnerships, and consortia. Conduct donor mapping, analysis, and deliver high quality and successful proposals.
- Delivery: Support the design of our business development strategy for USG and USG-Based institutional and foundation donor opportunities, including leading with the input/monitoring forecast and pipeline data, developing tools and processes to improve the business development cycle, development of concept notes, proposals, budgets, teaming agreements, partner due diligence, etc.
Corporation Development
- Purpose: Lead and support business development strategy for US corporations.
- Engagement: Lead the relationship management of US corporates. Track pipeline and secure ongoing relationships in alignment with set KPIs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Master’s degree preferred.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant institutional business development experience (or equivalent).
- Successful track record in USG and foundation proposal writing and production for public sector donors.
- Demonstrated skills in organizing teams to produce high-quality proposals on a tight deadline.
- Advanced knowledge of US Government donor agencies and other institutional donors.
- Proven successful track record with proposals to USAID and other institutional donors.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of USAID policies/procedures.
- Proven track record securing corporate partnerships.
- Technical knowledge of animal health, food security, emergency response is a plus.
- Excellent planning and resource management skills.
- Demonstrated skills in developing corporate and foundation partners.
- High proficiency in working with the finance team to support budget development.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
