Salary Range: $123,061 - $215,897 -The final salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's location within the stated range.

Position Overview:
The Director of Knowledge Management is a strategic leadership position within the organizational Operations team responsible for designing, developing and implementing knowledge management strategies, structures and best practices across JSI’s global operations and programs. This position will play an instrumental role in shaping and driving JSI’s organizational approach to knowledge management, promoting a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation, helping us become more adaptive and agile as we respond to our rapidly changing industry, both domestically and internationally.
The Director of Knowledge Management will be pivotal in enhancing JSI’s operational efficiency and impact, both at the organizational and project level. By establishing robust frameworks and leveraging cutting-edge technologies, the Director of Knowledge Management will empower our teams to access and collect, prioritize and use knowledge effectively, ultimately contributing to our competitive advantage on proposals and success in delivering complex projects worldwide. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead transformative initiatives that directly impact our organizational growth and global impact. The ideal candidate will understand that INGOs need to build infrastructure to manage and generate knowledge– and above all to share knowledge–in these changing times.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Activity Area 1: Strategy

  • Collaborate with global senior leadership, key stakeholders, and project teams to develop and implement a comprehensive knowledge management strategy that aligns with the organization's objectives for our US and international portfolios and our country leadership model.
  • Define strategic goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for knowledge management initiatives.

Activity Area 2: Systems and Processes

  • Establish frameworks and processes for capturing, organizing, and disseminating institutional and project knowledge, including lessons learned, best practices, and innovative solutions with the ultimate goal of utilizing data to inform organizational strategy and decision-making.
  • Design standardized templates, methodologies, and processes for consistent knowledge capture across different project teams and locations.
  • Assess the optimal commercial digital tools available for KM and evaluate costs and benefits to ensure ideal timing to procure and deploy an organization tool(s).
  • Lead the design and deployment of knowledge management tools and technologies for the best ROI to facilitate efficient knowledge sharing and collaboration among project teams globally.
  • Develop systemic linkages between project knowledge management practices and business development/proposal needs, improving responsiveness to ongoing donor requests.

Activity Area 3: Training and Transforming

  • Work toward a process of establishing a single source of truth (SSOT) for key organizational information to ensure data integrity, noting the organizational culture implications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate knowledge management practices into project lifecycle processes, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a designated cadre of knowledge management stakeholders across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and effective execution of initiatives. While these are non-direct reports, they are key knowledge management stakeholders and effective stewards of information that could be generated, consumed, and disseminated across technical centers, projects, country programs, etc.
  • Design, adapt, and Implement comprehensive training programs across the organization to ensure staff are proficient in the latest knowledge management processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of knowledge management initiatives through KPIs and feedback mechanisms, driving continuous refinement and enhancement.
  • Leverage new tools such as AI where possible to maximize data access and retrieval.
  • Conduct periodic “learning lab” presentations to the organization and specialized groups on KM updates and best practices.
  • Support business development objectives by designing KM approaches in response to proposals.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in knowledge management, preferably in a global and project-based environment within the international development or nonprofit sector.
  • Proven experience designing, managing and implementing knowledge management structures and systems globally.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing knowledge management strategies that have positively impacted organizational performance.
  • Experience working with staff in a hybrid and globally dispersed work environment.
  • Strong understanding of knowledge management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Customer service mindset and focus.
  • Proven experience in deploying and managing knowledge management technologies and tools, as well as familiarity with content management systems, collaboration platforms, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams across geographies and functions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work in a team with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in French, Portuguese, or another language is considered an asset.
  • Willingness and availability to travel domestically and internationally, and perform other duties as needed.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business goals into actionable knowledge management initiatives and programs.
  • Willingness to listen, understand and appreciate the current state to most effectively map a path forward to the desired future state.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Business Administration, Information Science, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge management certification and experience preferred.

Salary Range: $123,061 - $215,897 based on location & experience
