Corus International is seeking a Global Controller within the Finance and Administration Department.

This is a hybrid position and will be based in the Baltimore, MD or Washington, DC office. However, since the Finance & Administration staff sits in our Baltimore office; if selected candidate works from our DC office, he/she will initially be required to commute to our Baltimore office twice (2X) a week.

The Global Controller is a key leader of the Finance and Administration function supporting Corus financial management. This role is responsible for ensuring that the US based accounting, treasury, and statutory and management reporting systems and policies provide high quality, timely data and analysis for strategic decision support. The Global Controller reports to and works collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on strategic matters, including the setting of departmental and inter-departmental priorities, as well as representing Finance in cross-organizational working groups.

Responsibilities:

  • The Global Controller has responsibility for general and international accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, and cash management.
  • Ensures the integrity of the financial systems and related data which are the basis for all internal and external financial reporting.
  • Leads the development and oversight of required financial systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manages the annual external audit and ensures compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable regulatory and governance requirements including internal policies and procedures, donor requirements, and municipal bond covenants.
  • Provides timely strategic decision support for the Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Serves with the CFO as key staff for the Finance Committee of the Board and will stand in for the CFO in their absence.

Supervisory:

The Financial Team to be managed is currently 15 staff, with 4 direct reports responsible for (1) general accounting and cash management, (2) consolidation and financial reporting, (3) financial planning and analysis, and (4) international finance (field office oversight and support). Corus utilizes MIP for general accounting and Adaptive as the database for management performance reporting.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience, including 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as Controller for an international NGO with a minimum annual budget of $50 million and operating US Government funded programs in at least 10 countries.
  • An active CPA with a minimum of 3 years of experience with a large regional or national CPA firm is preferred.
  • Experience working with various non-USG public donors (e.g., EU, FCDO).
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government regulations.
  • Experience with MIP or similar systems for general accounting and database reporting applications like Adaptive.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and innovative problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, including recruiting, training, and development of staff.
  • Effective communicator, able to convey complex financial matters to non-financially trained professionals.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentations skills along with fluency in English are required, additional fluency in French and/or Spanish would be desirable.

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

  • Corus has a hybrid work policy, allowing work to be done remotely; 2-3 days/week minimum in the office is required. The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.
  • This position must be able to travel as required for standard domestic business purposes with the ability to operate from the organization's Baltimore, MD or Washington, D.C. office at least 2 days per week with travel periodically to the alternate office.
