Description

Job Synopsis: The person in this position will be responsible to oversee the IVEP (International Volunteer Exchange Program) program within the United States.  IVEP, started in 1950, provides a one-year service opportunity to young adults selected from countries outside of the United States and Canada to have a cross-cultural learning experience, promote peace and reconciliation, and receive further on-the-job vocational training.

This role is also an integral part of the Global Service Learning (GSL) department and will carry responsibilities beyond the IVEP program.

This is a one-year temporary position from December 2025 - December 2026 with the possibility of an extension to longer employment.

Salaried Employee -Full Time at 1 FTE

Essential:  

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Over one year-up to three years International service experience with MCC or similar organization;
  • Previous work with youth or young adults
  • Proficiency in MS office.
  • Interest and experience working with and gaining respect of young adults, preferably with young adults living in a cultural setting other than their home cultural setting.
  • Familiarity with recruitment strategies of young adults.
  • Good program management and creative conception skills.
  • Familiarity with Mennonite and BIC organizations and churches world-wide.

Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the US MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check.

Preferred:

  • International living experience.
  • Knowledge of additional language.

GSL Coordinator: Ensure screening and training of GSL participants and support to Connecting People’s Coordinators to prevent and respond to situations of abuse of power.

Specific tasks and duties:  

Admin/Coordinate (50%)  

  • Planning, budgeting, reporting, long term vision and policy development for IVEP program.
  • On-going administration, monitoring, support, supervision and evaluation of the program (about 30 participants from 15-20 countries worldwide).
  • Serve as the primary liaison ("Responsible Officer") between MCC and the US Department of State on matters related to IVEP.  This responsibility must be held by a US citizen or Legal Permanent Resident. MCC will shift this task across team members if needed.
  • Support MCC Representatives and Connecting People’s Coordinators as they prepare young adults for IVEP and support IVEPers when they return home.
  • Support MCC US Regions’ work on anti-racist communication and cross-cultural issues that arise with multi-cultural teams.
  • In consultation with the GSL Director, IVEP Coordinators, Regional Program Directors, HR, and IP Country program, respond to crises and guide problem-solving processes when challenges arise.
  • Coordinate with other MCC departments (HR, CDR) on promotion of the IVEP program.

Relationship Building/Networking (30%)  

  • Intensive cooperation to coordinate participant selection and placement with Area Directors, MCC Representatives, Connecting People’s Coordinators, and MCC US Regional staff.
  • Communication with the applicants, program participants, alumni and related church networks (systematic - mailings and on per need basis).
  • Promote and coordinate the IVEP program with MCC personnel and partners, by traveling, visiting and through internal and external publications and other communication channels.
  • Communicate regularly with staff in the four U.S. regional offices responsible for IVEP as well as sponsors and hosts in 12 to 15 states in the United States in order to increase the number of opportunities and effectiveness for participants.
  • Support and nurture the IVEPers, host families, and work sponsors throughout their term, specifically in regard to anti-racist training, cross-cultural issues, conflicts, and personal and faith development.

Education/ Training (20%)  

  • Take lead with organizing SALT/IVEP Orientation and Re-entry, together with the SALT & Seek Program Lead, YAMEN Program Lead, and other GSL staff.
  • Organize mid-year conference together with the relevant US regional IVEP coordinator.
  • Organize a yearly IVEP coordinator's conference. Include ongoing required topics in trainings for IVEP participants, hosts, and partners in regard to safeguarding, abuse of power, etc.
  • Facilitate CPC & YAC gatherings, training, and meetings.

Attends GSL department meetings.

Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis to support the purpose of the Global Service Learning Department.

Supervision: This position includes indirect supervision of MCCUS Regional Coordinators.

Travel expectations: Up to 25% with 51-60 nights away per year with some international travel.
