Our compensation philosophy is grounded in being competitive, equitable, and transparent.

Competitive: The salary range for this position is $60,720 to $77,280.

Equitable: We avoid negotiation within the ranges to create equity across our team, because we know that salary negotiations lead to poorer outcomes for individuals from non-dominant groups and underrepresented communities.

Transparent: We construct our salaries in such a way that staff can move through the range as they grow within their level. As such, most candidates will start at the midpoint of the range, $69,000, with a few above or below the midpoint based on specific skill sets and experiences.

About the position:

The Paralegal is responsible for supporting the Legal and Compliance team in its day-to-day operations. Under direct supervision of the General Counsel, the Paralegal will manage the contract management system, provide administrative support for licensing, registration and general compliance matters, support the management of the organization's insurance portfolio, maintain templates and clauses, prepare legal correspondence, and handle billing matters. This position provides a unique opportunity for the qualified candidate to make a unique and positive impact on the lives of others, both abroad and close to home.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in procuring, establishing, and maintaining a contract management system for organizing and tracking organizational contracts, while ensuring that executed documents and key terms are entered into system
  • Assist in preparing template contracts, with oversight from attorneys and procurement
  • Maintain repository of templates and clauses. As needed, assist attorneys in incorporating updates and communicate with internal stakeholders on appropriate uses of approved forms
  • Serve as Organizational Records Custodian for purposes of complying with Americares records retention and destruction policy
  • Preparing affidavits and other legal correspondence
  • Help organize and administer insurance policies and compliance requirements at the HQ and field office level, in consultation/coordination with AHT, Americares insurance broker
  • Handle billing matters for legal department
  • ​Update and maintain wholesale drug distribution licensing database
  • Update and maintain charitable and corporate registration databases
  • Assist with meeting materials/presentations
  • Accessing and filing court documents as needed
  • ​Accessing and researching public records to support work of legal department

Key Requirements and Competencies:

  • US work authorization required
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of related experience in in-house/Legal Department setting
  • Experience with drafting and administering commercial contracts, their key terms, and contracts lifecycle
  • Experience with contracts management solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work independently
  • Experience with contract management systems, LEXIS/NEXIS, and Microsoft Office applications including Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and Adobe Acrobat
  • Commuting proximity to Stamford, CT office
  • Prior experience in NGO and/or international environment desired
  • Fluency in Spanish desired
  • Certificate of completion from ABA-approved paralegal certification program desired
