Description
The successful Communications Writer will regularly deliver high-quality articles, human stories, and social media content that highlights our technical expertise, accomplishments, and our support for community-led solutions in health and education–internationally and domestically. They will understand the INGO landscape and support a content development plan that furthers our vision and mission. Further, they will seek out content and find connections among work streams that help tell the full story of JSI and train other project staff on best storytelling practices. Reporting to the Associate Director of Communications, the Communications Writer will be an essential part of a professional, effective, nimble, creative, productive, and fun team.

To contribute to this mission, JSI is seeking an experienced Communications Writer with our Communications Division.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be a curious internal journalist–seek out the best content and align it to organizational priorities.
- Bring your in-depth content development experience to produce, advise on and develop blogs, news posts, stories, advocacy pitches, video/podcast scripts, social media posts, newsletters, press releases, long form content, think pieces, and web content with relevant cultural sensitivities.
- Find the thread across various work streams at JSI and tell a cohesive story.
- Lead or contribute to overall message development, and pitch content internally. Use project management techniques to meet deadlines, set expectations, and track results.
- Lead or contribute to regular editorial plans.
- Participate in the development and management of organizational marketing materials for conferences and events.
- Analyze metrics and adjust plans accordingly.
- Contribute to other communications projects as they arise, including Infographics, Internal content, promotional materials, slideshows, website text.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required in related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years’ experience developing content for international development issues–primarily public health, education.
- Demonstrated skills in writing, storytelling, and communications across a wide variety of channels – print, video, audio, speeches, visual, and digital media.
- Advanced writing and editing skills with experience with social media.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and the Adobe Creative Suite—including InDesign and Premier Pro—WordPress, and other software programs.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills; solution oriented with a high sense of quality,
- attention to detail, accuracy, efficiency, and meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and set
- priorities.
- Ability to work individually - self-motivated, flexible, accountable, and able to take ownership of projects; as well as successfully work as part of a team with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with a good sense of humor, professional behavior, and friendly attitude; with developed cross-cultural communication skills.
- Willingness to teach yourself new skills; and affinity for identifying and championing new ideas.
- Willingness and ability to travel (approx. 5%).
Salary Range: $95,000-$110,000
