Description

Position Summary

Big Bad Boo is an award-winning media company that uses cartoons to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. Its commercial programs broadcast in over 100 countries on premier networks including Disney, PBS, Cartoon Network and streaming platforms like Amazon and Hulu. The company’s international development division partners with UNICEF, USAID, the EU, and other governments to use cartoon-based programs to: provide psychosocial support and teach life skills, social emotional and critical thinking skills to children in conflict-affected regions. This division also creates behavioral change communications to counter violent extremism, gender-based violence and social instability. The company currently has programs throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The Senior Program Manager ensures both quality programming and program impact are achieved according to contractual requirements and best practices.  More specifically, the Senior Program Manager is responsible for leading program implementations with implementing partners, including actualizing all deliverables and managing reporting of all programs within their portfolio. The position also contributes to the development of high-quality proposals and partnerships with consortia partners for a range of institutional donors including the USAID, Global Affairs Canada, UNICEF, and others.

This is a 12-month full time contract with possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

Job Responsibility #1: Program Management – 60%

  • Manages and monitors projects, ensuring deliverables are met according to contractual requirements and donor expectations
  • Leads on the development of timely and accurate donor narrative reports in collaboration with team members and implementing partners, ensuring reports adhere to donor requirements
  • Leads on the development and monitoring of project workplans in collaboration with implementing partners and external stakeholders, as required
  • Assists with the management of contracts, agreements, and relationships with institutional donors, as required
  • Works with the finance department to complete budgetary forecasts, monitor spend, including burn rate, of programs
  • Assists in the monitoring of programs, as required, including analyzing quantitative and qualitative data against indicators and targets
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of program records and databases to document program-related learning
  • Promotes and actively supports a culture of learning within the company

Job Responsibility #2: New Business Development – 30%

  • Actively investigates new funding sources to support ongoing and new programming
  • Leads on the writing and editing of high-quality funding applications for institutional donors
  • Assists in donor development/new business development through involvement in networks and working groups as well as attendance at donor and networking events, as appropriate
  • Assists in the design of new program ideas/approaches in coordination with the Director of Programs and the Co-Founder and CEO

Job Responsibility #3: People Leadership – 10%

  • People leadership of Program Coordinator and/or Program Managers (remote)

Requirements

Education

  • Masters or post-graduate degree in international development or related field or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Minimum of five years project management experience in the international development and/or humanitarian sectors
  • Proven and demonstrable experience in successful proposal writing with multiple institutional donors including UNICEF, USAID, and others
  • Knowledge of project management cycles, results-based management and tools including performance management frameworks
  • Demonstrable experience working remotely with teams in various countries and time zones
  • Successful track record of managing international development programs with program assistants, coordinators and implementing partners
  • People leadership

Skills and knowledge

  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize, work under pressure and manage multiple time-sensitive priorities
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills
  • Demonstrable ability to analyze challenges and propose workable solutions.
  • Strong managerial and team building skills
  • Technical skills in child-centered programming, gender equality and/or international education, an asset
  • Computer proficiency including strong MS Office skills
