JRS/USA Development Manager Job Description

Do you watch the news? It's wonder, “How can I help? Where can I contribute?” This is a great opportunity for someone with fundraising experience to help those in need and work with a collaborative and passionate team supporting essential programs for refugees worldwide.

The Development Manager will support the implementation of JRS/USA's global fundraising strategy around unrestricted donations and grant funding. The Development Manager will focus on foundations and work closely with the Vice President of Development to share a portfolio of family foundations and larger private grant funders.

They will spend half their time on foundations/grant writing and half their time on donor communications and campaign support. The manager plays a key role on a small but mighty Development team that is tasked with fundraising for a global mission. We are seeking a team player with strong organization and communication skills in this multi-faceted role.

Manage Fundraising Projects and campaign support—50%

  • Managed three team members, campaign administration, and external donor communications.
  • Work closely with the Vice President to track and execute move management for grant foundations, which have the potential to support the mission with 5–7-figure gifts.
  • Serve as a relationship holder for a small number of large grant funders.
  • Prepare materials (applications) that highlight the mission impact for a portfolio of grant applications.
  • Maintain donor information to a high standard within the organization’s database.
  • Identify opportunities for increases from existing funders and new grantors.
  • Liaise with Development Major Gift Team members to track stewardship and cultivation of new funder leads.
  • Provide support in the coordination of fundraising events and additional creative donor-centered programming.

Grant writing—50%

  • Serve as primary relationship holder for a portfolio of private foundations.
  • Write and submit grant proposals to foundations that demonstrate a compelling need for financial support in the 5–7 figure range.
  • Coordinates with the Development, Program, and Finance Departments in the preparation of proposals and reports for foundations.
  • Manages specialized databases and systems for recording and tracking foundation proposal agreements, deadlines, and related statistical information.
  • Manage foundation funding and research potential foundation opportunities.
  • Maintain grants calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, gift acknowledgments, reports, and other stewardship activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of grant applications in the organization’s CRM (Salesforce).
  • Collaborate effectively with the program department from the proposal stage through to program implementation, reporting, and renewals. Including identifying areas of need and opportunities for program expansion, as well as gathering data and metrics necessary for written materials development.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, funder relationship management, and grant writing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field (communications, international relations, business, social sciences).
  • Highly articulate with exceptional interpersonal, writing, and editing skills. Ability to motivate support for JRS Global programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fundraising process: cultivation, stewardship, the ask, and reporting.
  • Understanding of complex international relations regarding refugees and the ability to showcase the impact of JRS programs on the issues and the people we serve.
  • Knowledge of Catholic organizations is a plus but not necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven successful project management skills.
  • Experience in managing 1-2 team members.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels.
  • Display a positive attitude and demonstrate presence, self-confidence, and good listening skills.
  • Creativity, team player, and sense of humor are a plus.
  • Professional proficiency in Office365, video conferencing software, and CRM databases; experience with Salesforce and WealthEngine is a plus.

Salary: $71,000-$82,000, based on experience
