The mission of Jesuit Refugee Service/USA (JRS/USA) is to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees and forcibly displaced persons. JRS works in more than 50 countries worldwide to meet the educational, health, psycho-social and emergency needs of over 1 million refugees and other forcibly displaced persons regardless of race, ethnic origin or religious beliefs. Where can I contribute?” This is a great opportunity for someone with fundraising experience to help those in need and work with a collaborative, supportive, and passionate team supporting essential programs for refugees worldwide. Today, there are more than 85 million refugees and internally displaced people worldwide, the highest level ever recorded.

The Major Gift Officer is a full-time position, supporting the functions of the JRS/USA Development team through direct solicitation of individuals in support of unrestricted funds and restricted funds for education/livelihoods and mental health programs for refugees worldwide.

Global JRS recently underwent an extensive feasibility study and has an extensive donor prospects pool and is looking for the right team member to help support the global JRS mission and programming.

Essential Duty #1: Portfolio Management: 65%

· Donor Portfolio Management & Building- Manage and build a portfolio of 75+ active and prospective mid-level individual donors with a goal of totaling $750,000 in contributed revenue annually.

· Expand New Donor Opportunities- Increase support and build relationships with Catholic religious congregations to acquire gifts or grants of $10,000+ in support of JRS refugee programs.

· Donor Prospecting- Research and qualify prospective donors via wealth screening tools, phone calls, and in-person conversations.

· Creation of Stewardship Materials- Create stewardship materials (donor reports, email newsletters, and other collateral as needed) in collaboration with program and communication colleagues.

Essential Duty #2: Institutional Cultivation, Strategy, and Solicitation: 35%

· Develop and Pitch Proposals- Build a pipeline and develop and pitch proposals of $10,000+ for potential grant funders and individuals who have the propensity and capacity to support refugee initiatives.

· Project Reporting- Submit periodic progress and final project reports to fulfill donor compliance expectations.

· Strategic Partnership- Support the VP of Development and Major Gift Team plan and execute strategic fundraising initiatives for unrestricted and program-designated giving.

· Works closely with the Sr. Donor Relations Officer and the JRS/USA Programs team to understand the status of donor-funded projects and accurately communicate reports to donors.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree required. Masters preferred.

· At least six years of Fundraising/Advancement experience with an emphasis on gift acquisition and/or comparable professional experience.

· Proven ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution and a proven track record of success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $10,000 - $50,000.

· Familiarity with Catholic organizations is helpful but not required.

· Experience with grant writing and proposals is a strong plus.

· Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and organizational skills.

· The ability to develop and cultivate positive relationships with colleagues, donors, and prospective donors.

· Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and advancement software – Salesforce experience is a plus.

Work schedule: Two days in Washington DC office and three days remote.

Salary Range: $78,000 – $100,000
