Description

JSI’s International Division seeks an energetic, talented, entrepreneurial self-starter who’s captivated by new business development. The position is to be DC- or Boston-based and will work closely with the new business development core team as well as all international division staff members who support business development. JSI is looking for someone excited by the chance to provide input to division-wide new business development strategic priorities, support overall quality improvement and growth of the JSI NBD work, and advocate for and support NBD operations at JSI. S/he will be supervised by an Associate Director, Global Business Development.

The preference is for this position to be based in Boston or Washington DC. We may also consider a fully remote position in states where JSI R&T is registered (AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, PA, RI, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WI).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Global Business Development Manager will coordinate and be engaged in a wide range of new business processes and opportunities within the division, including leading BD efforts for an assigned geographic region. The role includes the following tasks:

Proposal Development

  • Serve as the first point of contact for BD for all countries within an assigned region and represents BD on relevant country support teams.
  • Ensure effective communication and facilitates strategy development, analysis and decision-making around relevant BD opportunities.
  • Ensure the development and submission of highly competitive proposals, primarily to US Government (USG) agencies, and also private foundations, non-US governments, corporations and multilateral donors, primarily, but not limited to, within assigned region
  • Support proposal development in the following capacities (as relevant per skillset): advisory role (capture and proposal development), proposal manager, capture lead/coordinator, writer, capacity strengthening and mentoring
  • Lead and support capture phase activities including in-country information gathering that will inform strategy creation and proposal writing, partnership strategy and cultivation, strategic decision making, negotiating teaming and pre-teaming agreements, and facilitating design discussions between consortium and JSI experts.
  • Work with colleagues to set win themes and guide their incorporation into proposal sections
  • Conduct RFA/RFP analysis to ensure responsive outlines and draft sections
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure that the proposal is well written, cohesive, organized according to donor requirements, and that all technical proposal sections are consistent and aligned and accurately reflected in cost proposals

Operations and Performance

  • Contribute to the management, upkeep and adaptation of new business development knowledge management platforms (including Salesforce, Google drive, and Slack) across the International Division.
  • Conduct data analyses using information from JSI’s knowledge management platform, JEMS
  • Undertake efforts to improve the NBD process at JSI including development and revision of new resources, tools, templates, and training materials.
  • Support cross-divisional staff training, including leading training sessions and orientations on JSI’s new business development processes and systems to build staff capacity.
  • Lead internal post-submission debriefs to learn and improve processes and systems.
  • Work closely with the core NBD team members, the extended BD team members across the international division and World Education (WE) divisions, and corporate functions as needed to ensure NBD operations.

Strategic Data Analysis

  • Routinely analyze changes in donor trends. Share data with the BD team and support development of strategies for strategic growth/direction of NBD resources
  • Support development and implementation of strategies to identify and cultivate new government, foundation and other funders.
  • Work closely with operations, communications, and other related teams to synergize organizational BD efforts for greater efficiency, visibility, and collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree and a minimum of 6 years’ experience working for an international development organization or Bachelor’s degree and 8 years’ experience
  • A minimum of 4 years leading USG proposal responses
  • Proven track record of identifying, tracking, and winning bilateral, multilateral and private sector solicitations.
  • Knowledge of international development, current trends and priorities, particularly in the field of health
  • In-depth knowledge of USAID, Gavi, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other international development funder programmatic priorities, business practices, rules and regulations
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize a wide range of information in order to develop proposal strategies.
  • Ability to make complex bidding decisions and communicate decisions to proposal teams and division leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Strong written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organized manner;
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. Fluency in other languages preferred
  • Experience working with SalesForce databases
  • Experience managing Google Workspaces
  • Willingness to travel internationally as necessary (~15-20%)
